The 2018 Fiat 500 will likely be the current generation model of last year, according to the latest reports. These reports suggest that the second generation of this small city car is on its way. As it will be the last year of production, it is difficult to expect something more. As you probably know, this legendary nameplate was relaunched in 2007 and accepted incredibly among car enthusiasts and experts. This also makes excellent commercial results. It is really hard to find a small car with a unique look and an incredible personality. After almost a decade, this small city car still looks extremely fresh and competitive.
2018 Fiat 500 Design
The overall design of the 2018 Fiat 500 remains intact, but the style was more aggressive for the 2018 model year. At the front, the lower suction and fog loudspeakers are wider and contrasted by chrome and black plastic parts . The lighting has been updated with LED accents, while the rear gets new chrome accents on the bumper, in addition to the new rear fog lamps for Europe.
For Europe, there are three basic configurations, the five-passenger cross, and the optional seven-passenger Wagon and Urban. There are different levels of trim in each configuration, although long-wheelbase seven-passenger versions are unlikely to reach the US market. The big news is the Cross, which gets a 25 mm lift, non-slip plates, unique front and rear bumpers, and new wheels and tires. Although there are new drive modes, Fiat makes no mention of all-wheel drive. Customers with the need can access the smaller but more traditional 500X.
Fiat 500 Engine
The updated 2018 Fiat 500 can be powered by a gasoline unit of 95 horsepower and 1.4 liters more and more developing 120 hp. There is also the familiar 0.9-liter TwinAir with 105 hp on the faucet and a bi-fuel version of the 1.4-liter TJet rated at 120 hp compatible with gasoline and LPG. Another bi-fuel engine is the aforementioned 0.9 liter TwinAir with 85 hp that can run on gasoline and methane. On the diesel side, the 1.3-liter MultiJet produces 95 hp while the larger 1.6-liter MultiJet is good for 120 hp.
Like the outside, the changes in the interior are more refreshed than anything new. At the front, the most important changes are for the steering wheel, the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. A speedometer and a tachometer flank a 3.5-inch color screen. Like the Fiat 500X, the 2018 Fiat 500 will have a multitude of menus and options to get through. The infotainment has been updated with the latest version of the excellent FCC UConnect system. This means Apple’s standard CarPlay and Android Auto.
The model will be available in 10 different colors and some options for the roof (body color, gloss black or white or matt black). In total, the Italian automaker says there are 37 different color combinations available.
